CNN contributor: I want my daughter to be gay, too

A political pundit has sparked controversy by saying she hopes her 6-year-old daughter is also a lesbian.

“I’m gay. And I want my kid to be gay, too,” Sally Kohn admits in a Washington Post op-ed.

Even the CNN contributor’s “most liberal” straight friends “see this logic as warped,” she writes. However, it’s not unusual for parents to their children to follow in their footsteps.

“If we went to college, we want our kids to go to college,” Kohn says. “If we like sports, we want our kids to like sports. If we vote Democrat, of course we want our kids to vote Democrat.”

The Park Slope resident, whose opinions have been featured in the Daily News, explains that she will support her daughter. However, she wants the little girl to understand that “being gay is equally desirable to being straight.”

“The problem is not the idea that homosexuality could be a choice but the idea that heterosexuality should be compulsory,” she says.

So far, it doesn’t look like Kohn’s “boy crazy” daughter will be gay, she says.

“It seems early to me, but I’m trying to be supportive,” Kohn says. “Recently, she had a crush on an older boy on her school bus.”

The lengthy essay published online Friday drew criticism from some conservative bloggers.

“Sally DOESN’T want her child to be herself,” a post on Chicks on the Right reads. “If she did, the title of her column would have been, ‘I’m gay. And I want my kid to be herself, whatever sexuality that happens to be.'”

“Forcing children into choosing homosexuality for themselves isn’t in the best interest of the child,” Derryck Green writes on the site Young Conservatives.

Kohn made a general statement to critics on Twitter.

“Dear people, please read my @washingtonpost piece a bit more carefully before accusing me of things I didn’t write,” she tweeted Saturday.
